That’s it, we are already on December 24th. Today it’s raining but we don’t care, we will have a good party even without sun. We are all together so that’s the most important.

Napier, Apollo apple BBQ

Napier > Cap Kidnappers (return) (53km, 3h + 5h30 by walk)
Today is a sporting day. Wake up around 7.30am we are going to visit Cap Kidnappers with Rob, Christian and a last minute guest, Julia. We will go by bike with Rob during Christian will hitch hikin because he doesn’t like the free bike of our backpacker.
Gisborne, visit around and fireworks
Today, I take one day to visit Gisborne. The weather is nice and warm. It a good occasion for a visit… by bike sure, always :-) Tonight we will have a party on the beach with everybody. Guy Fawkes Night is an old English event celebrated each year on the evening of November 5th with bonfires, fireworks and family gatherings.
Ruatōria, video souvenir, Maori Festival
Finally! more than 3 years later, I’ve got the good enough internet connection to upload that video (in two parts). Maila showed me a DVD where her children participated to a Maori festival. They dance and sing traditional songs.
Ruatōria > Mt Hikurangi (35km, 1785m, 3h20)
Hey! Today is the day to reach the highest non volcanic mountain of the north island. I finally decided to go by bike because John, a Maila ‘s friend, told me that it was possible to ride there. It’s a long trip to arrive up there because the road is going slightly up.
East Cape > Ruatōria (67km, 4h25)
5:50am, my alarm is ringing because I want to see the sunrise this morning and take the best pictures I can. I will be the first (with some islands like Fiji) to see the first light of the sun today. It’s not happening everywhere in the world and I want to see that! Hurry up the sun won’t wait for me and there is 700 steps between me and the top!
