Thermal Pool > Mataranka > Bitter Springs > Elsey National Park (36km, 2h35)

Second day spending in Mataranka and second day swimming in nice warm waters. That’s holidays :-) This time I’ve been to “Bitter Springs” another spot on the other side of Mataranka and still in the Elsey National Park. I’ve tried to go early the morning to avoid the crowd and actually it was good. I could see turtles!

Back to this morning, around 7:30am, I’m on the road but not the one that comes back to Mataranka. When I was cycling to town I’ve been on a ‘T’ junction and that other road is going to a campsite. It might be a cheap one because it’s in the National park and there is no toilets. I’ve started cycling that way thinking it was not far but after few corners I could not see the end of it. I checked my GPS and realized that there id about 15 to 20km to reach the end. So I turned back and I’m now going to Mataranka then Bitter Springs. I will come back later this afternoon.

Coming back to the ‘T’ junction I know now how far was that campsite.

This is now the Stuart Highway again. Mataranka is not far.

The small town is already behind me and I’ve got only 3km to get to Bitter Springs to have a nice swim :-)

Yep! This is the right way.

I’ll be there in a minute.

Getting very close.

Bitter Springs!

haha, I did not expect to take that shot. Super glasses for super face!

The camera is set up :-)

The temperature of the water is perfect! Warm and nice!

Ready for the adventure?

Here we go!

This shot is taken from under water but the water being so clear it doesn’t seem to be.

There is a kind of loop. On one side we follow the slow current of the river. The second part of the loop we must walk back.

  1. Bitter spring is beautiful!!!!! I’ve been to Mataranka, but not this one.
    your campsite looks peaceful.

  2. Hé, comment tu as fait les photos sous l’eau ? Avec ton téléphone ? Enfermé dans un Tupperware ? En tous les cas le rendu est super !
