Singapore, first look around the city centre

DSCF2270

First day visiting the city centre of Singapore and finally I’ve discovered the famous “boat building”. Today, I mainly tried to figure out how and where to get free internet. Actually there isn’t… To use the one from the library, I need a local phone number to be able to register. I could get internet from Starbuck but felt better buying something and Starbuck can be expensive… The last night I did not sleep very well and especially not enough so I booked two nights in a backpacker and will use that time to organise myself.

Not far from the park where I slept in last night, I found this chinese place. There is a lot of different choices and it’s cheap. This is the kind of place I must look every day if I want to keep on my budget.

DSCF2264You choose what you want to eat thenĀ go to another place to get a drink and choose your seat. Very simple, very cheap, I like it :-)

This place is quite high and they painted the side of the walls with a patchwork style.

I’m now cycling around. I don’t really know where I’m going but I will see. Singapore is a mix between short, old buildings and totally new high one.

These towers are like connected to each other with kind of platforms that seems to be built afterwards. Actually I know what I’m looking for! I’m searching a library. This morning I found one but it was going to open at 9pm. I had one hour to wait so I left the place.

Then I’ve been cycling around Marina bay (the principal touristy bay) where I could spot another library. this time it opens at 11am…

I can just wait here and observe the “boat building” how I call it. It does not have any name on the map and it looks like a boat on top of three towers.

I was curious to see how it looked in real. In fact, this is impressive!

11am finally came and my visit was pretty quick. There is no wifi available for people who don’t have a Singaporean phone number. And all the seat were taken anyway…

Well, where should I go now? The big fence on the right hand side is actually here for the next Formula 1 event that is going to happen on the 18-19-20 september 2015. It’s going to be very very noisy! I might be in Malaysia at that time.

I can look for Starbucks coffee then, apparently they got wifi. And maybe I will stay two nights in a backpacker because I need to sleep properly.

Nice creation :-) This put a bit of colors between those grey towers.

Finally, after having cycling from one Starbuck to another, I could get a descent internet connection and book two nights in the same backpacker as Tomo. Tomohiro is the Japanese guy I met in Malacca when we did the visit of the city by bicycles with Abdou, Bilel, Lee and another Japanese guy. We kept in contact and plan to see each other in SIngapore in case I would be here before he leaves. I will see tonight if I’m on time or not.

This is not the best interesting day of my travel today and I’m writing this a bit late so I forgot the details. I must find another solution for internet because running after Cafes everyday is gonna be tiring. For now I’ve got two nights to relax in the Betelbox Backpacker which is a bit away from the city centre but much more affordable (16$ per night, free internet, free breakfast included).

  1. What is going to happen to the boat on the buildings when a cyclone hit the city…? ( That’s how people in tropic think)
May be it will be used as like Noah’s ark!

I don’t understand why they are so stingy about Wifi to foreigners.
