Gilimanuk > Lewung area (57km, 2h50 + 4,5km by ferry)

Unfortunately last night was not as good as I expected. My hammock did a perfect job but the guys singing yesterday until 22pm (maybe more) and so early this morning broke all my expectations. Anyway, today is the day when I come to Java. It’s going to be a new adventure and not as scary as balinese people told me. I met very friendly Javanese people today!

Map (only second part). My bloody GPS bogged again and delete the first part of the day which was barely flat.

Girimanuk to Lewung

Elevation (only second part).

I’ve left my forest this morning and did not have any trouble during the night apart the singers… Then I came back on the same road again until Gilimanuk. There was a queue for the trucks, the cars, the motocycles and me? Well, my best solution was to follow the motorcycles. I had to keep my mask because 200 motorcycles waiting next to each other under a big roof is quite aweful. When I got to the ticket area a guy show me where to go and talked with a smile to the ticket man. Am I going to pay 3 or 4 times the normal price? Fortunaltely no. The price was shown on the window (8400Rp = 0.84$) for a 20 minutes “cruise”. Maybe we must row or something :-)

Here I am, cars, scooters and bikes have fitted in and we are leaving very soon.

Over there, this is Java!

DSCF0516

This boat like all the other around is old and rusty but it’s working perfectly. Some people are staying in there car but to be able to use the aircon they let the car running. This is impossible to stay down there so I will check my bike often  from here just in case.

Look how much scooters are gonna fit in the boat.

DSCF0518

Let’s go!

DSCF0520

Bye bye Bali :-)

DSCF0521

The inside of the boat. It’s far to be full today.

As I said, the crossing last around 20 minutes but we had to wait another 20 minutes until we got a free place where to ” land”. Finally I was one of the first to get out of the ferry. Java, I’m here! :-)

I did not take any pictures during the first 30km. I was so motivated to ride until I became hungry and found a warung where to stop.

DSCF0523

This warung is good because it’s free service. There is one single price for one plate, well this what I understood :-) I’ve paid 20000Rp (2$) for this meal and 3 ice tea, cheap!

When I finished to eat I worked a bit on my blog. I don’t really like showing my laptop here but this warung was not really open on the street. After that I sat on a bench and met Sodek few minutes later. It was too early to continue and I prefer to wait until 3 or 4pm.

The guy from the motorcycle shop (in yellow) next door came to see my bike but did not talk any english. Sodek can speak a bit so he was the translator. Then the waiter (in black) from the warung joined us. And then the security guy joined us too. They all ask for a “Foto” when I said I was going to leave. I’ve learned some new Indonesian words but I need to practice if I don’t want to forget. Thank you Sodek :-)

DSCF0531

For the first time, I’m crossing a part of Indonesia with no shops along the road! This might be a national park. My concern is monkeys this time. I’ve seen a lot along the road.

DSCF0532

What’s going on here?

DSCF0533

This is a rest area sponsored by a noodle brand.

DSCF0534

I can eat something and have a short break. I’m the only guest here… Is it good?

This rest area is like a club but with no one dancing.

DSCF0535

All the forest is situated on a hill. Before the hill is the city from where I’ve met Sodek. After the hill there is another city. Maybe I should stop now but I’ve got no food with me so I won’t get any dinner tonight. Better to continue a bit.

DSCF0536

Wow! Looks like this volcano is well alive.

Finally I arrived in town, crossed it and found a spot at its end. Then I came back towards the centre and went to a mini-warung which sold some Bakso. Bakso is a soup with chicken meat ball. They added some noodle and I took an ice tea again. The woman did not speak a word of English but was talking a lot :-) I said “OK”, “y…yes”, “ok”, “OK”. It was enough talking to get some food :-) I paid 8000Rp for this but I was still hungry. So I’ve crossed the road, when to a minimarket and bought some biscuits. I sat on the ground and was eating my dessert until a guy sat next to me. His name is Johnny, he is a teacher in primary school. His religion is muslim. He is 34 years old and he is going to divorce after being 5 moon together with his wife. I don’t know how long is ” 5 moon” but it sounds like a short period. We spent maybe an hour charting (English) together until I had to come back to the spot I found for the night.

The place I’ve discovered sooner this late afternoon is actually behind a warung, next to a carpark. I’ve seen some public toilets/showers and two trees where to attach my hammock. Everything sounds good! Not exactly… The singers! I’ve forgot them again!
