Today we planned to visit Railay beach which is not far away. It’s actually the next one after Ao Nang beach. The only way to access to it is by long-tail boat. We paid 200 Baht return as the trip is really short. Once on the other side, we have visited the area and discover a lagoon that is hard to access to. Then we spent some time in the water and swam around this big limestone rock.
Map.
First the boat let us on Tonsai beach.
During we were walking towards the forest we discovered some nice bars.
They look like basic huts made straight from the logs around.
The style is very “roots”.
We keep going through the forest.
On the edge of the village there is some individual hut people can rent.
And there is a lot of them.
Hmmm, this spider reminds me the one I’ve seen in Cairns! Yoko? Martin? :-)
This one is another “backpacker hostel” hidden in the bush.
Luxury hut :-)
Ah, the bush walk is starting right now.
It’s green, quiet, nice :-)
Close up.
Looks like we are coming somewhere.
Wow! What is that?! Plastic, plastic, plastic. I feel pain…
Railay beach is a great spot for climbers. If I had money…
We have reach a village.
Let’s keep walking along the seaside.
Ah, That’s interesting but monday was few days ago… The next one we should be on the road again. I’m just wondering it the pile of plastic I’ve seen just before is related to this event. That’s a good thing to collect rubbish but the recycling process has just started.
Ooops, I’ve got the wrong turn. The lagoon is the other way.
Low tide obviously.
A long pier.
They use those big trailers to welcome the tourist at low tide. The tractor drives along the pier (on the picture above) so people can hop on the trailer from the boat.
I completely missed the entrance of the lagoon track… Actually, if you don’t see anyone climbing when you walk front of it, that’s difficult to imagine that’s a track. There is a sign but it’s in the shape on the shelter that’s front of this wall. Anyway, let’s do this.
This is quite steep, but the roots and the rock surface help a lot.
Few! Up there in 5 minutes :-) 100 metres left to get to the lagoon. Before that, there is a viewpoint somewhere.
That’s the one :-) Tonsai beach is the furthest beach we can see from here.
This one is Railay east.
That’s the way down to the lagoon.
Few! It looks even steeper than the previous climb! Let’s have a look.
Oy oy oy! As usual, I’m wearing flip flops. It looks like a bit dangerous…
I can see the lagoon already.
Finally! After 3 vertical walls, I’m in the bottom of the huge pot.
That’s huge.
The light enters inside the natural tube…
… leaving a nice atmosphere.
This is actually low tide, maybe not the best time to come here. People played with the mud and create lots of small sculptures.
I’m sure it’s better at high tide.
Let’s continue towards Railay west beach now.
Weird rock formations.
Another climbing walright on the beach. Nice spot.
Wow! nice :-)
That’s a big piece of rock this one.
We are not alone.
Just on the other side of the fence behind us, a luxury hotel.
That’s colourful.
Let’s walk on the beach.
Hey :-)
There is so much boats here and many many people.
Cristal clear water.
Wow! I think we might be able to have some food here :-)
40 Bath = 1€ = $3.2AUD = cheap but still more expensive than in the countryside.
A kitchen on a boat.
Miam!
Turquoise beach, hot temperature, people everywhere. Is this Thailand, the real one?
As I said before, We can not access Railay beach because of the kind of huge piece of rock.
Same on the other side.
Wide view.
Short Movie. Time to go back.
Boat view.
Each boat can carry something like 15 people at once.
The captain is concentrated.
Bye bye Railay beach.
That’s it for today. Tomorrow I will be stuck at Starbucks to update this blog again :-) ALl good. Enjoy!
Yes that looks like a Golden Orb Spider….. What a fun looking place..Maybe a bit “touristy” for your likeing though ? Am I right ? Nice photos… You are the most thorough blogger I have seen on the web !
Oh là là ! tu nous fais baver Damien. Un peu déçue par l’eau grise du lagon. Quand on entend le mot “lagon” on imagine du bleu plutôt ! Tu aurais pu attendre la marée haute !
Nice beach. Boat food stalls are good idea!
It must be Australian tourists among them. :-)
