Tropic of Capricorn rest area > Promise Gap rest area (116km, 5h20)

Wow! Well… I don’t know… I’m not sure… At least this is different again from what I’ve seen previously but the road from Alice to Darwin is not amazing as Port Augusta to Alice. I know from the English cyclist who told me that the road would be different after Tenant Creek which is 500km from Alice. For now, there is very long strech with zero bend and mainly the same landscape. This morning I had a very good tail wind and done more than 60km in 2h30. That’s pretty quick! This afternoon I was a bit slower as the wind came from the side. But I’m on holiday so it doesn’t matter ;-)

Elevation.

Darwin, 1428km, easy :-) Look how straight this road is! Fziiiiou!

A moment later… Nope, still the same :-)

Side landscape, a lot to see ;-)

I can’t even see the end of the road ’cause of the heat.

Hey, something a bit different here. A farm.

Well, it might be just a part of it. Bez, from the Uluru tour, explained to us than each grid we cross means we enter in an other property. Back to the centre, we would cross one every 80km or more. Those property are HUGE!

Aileron, 5km. I might stop there if I can find a spot where to sleep. Some Roadhouse have free campsite like the one in Pimba but I don’t know about this one.

That’s the place.

A roadhouse, fuel station and a campsite. I don’t think that’s free though.

What is that?

Some sculpture going on here.

Wow, Lezard sculpture :-)

I came in the roadhouse and asked for chips. Straight away, the guy answer me in French: “Are you sure you want that? This is $8 for a big box or $5 for a small one”. “Thanks I will take the small one”. I need to practice more my english! haha.

On the sign from the road, they wrote “The best restaurant and pub on the track”. Well, those chips are dry and that French bloke forgot the salt. I know why they said “on the track”. Because if they had said “… on the Stuart Highway” or “… on the road” maybe we could complain. “… on the track” means nothing here, haha, what a smart guys :-) I don’t care, these are chips and this is fat :-) Good for what I’m doing :-)

Finally I’m leaving Aileron Roadhouse to hit the road for a little while. I know there is a rest area in about 20km. If I can today, I will reach it for the night.

I’ve seen a sign telling “next rest area 14km”. This is less than I thought so I can make it I think.

The sun is low now, quick quick!

Here I am :-) The Promise Gap rest area, nice! Of course I will enjoy the night, thanks! See ya :-)
