Satun > Thung Yao village (105km, 6h)

First full day cycling in Thailand :-) The first big place with lots of activities to do and lots of things to see will be Krabi. For now we did not expect to spend too much money. We were lucky to discover there was a waterfall to visit and for free. It was a bit a detour from our main direction but the road was definitively much nicer. Let’s start the visit!

We left the “temple Buddhist park” early this morning and we enjoy the fresh air for now.

The style of the houses is a bit different from what I’ve seen the other times in Malaysia. Apparently they love using trunks with their natural shape.

DSCF6755

A temple entrance?

DSCF6756

Let’s have breakfast. The good thing about Thailand is when you order tea, they give you a tea plus the teapot and it’s cheap.

DSCF6759

In those banana leaves there is sticky rice with coconut.

Later on along the road, we discover that there is a waterfall and a cave somewhere nearby.

DSCF6761

The signs are not all in english. In that case, it doesn’t help much… A very little number of people here speak english.

DSCF6763

This is certainly a water pool used for the plantation around the area. We did not have any rain since penang. That’s a week already. Where is that famous rainy season? I’m wondering…

DSCF6766

At this place along the road, a shop is making these mini temple for people to buy and make offerings.

DSCF6771

You can choose whatever colour you like :-)

DSCF6772

Lunch break this time. The other good thing about Thailand is places like this offer you water and ice for free and unlimited. I guess we pay a part of it in the food we order but it’s still much cheaper than to buy another drink over and over when you are thirsty.

The menu… There is 7 pictures fortunately.

DSCF6775

Back on the road, the waterfall is not that far anymore.

DSCF6776

Hmmm, what is that?

DSCF6777

Since Satun we can see those handmade forest. At first, I thought it was renewable forest.

DSCF6779

Actually, maybe it is but they use those trees for the sap they provide.

DSCF6780

They cut a part of the bark and collect the sap in that bowl (which seems on the wrong position right now).

DSCF6781

Then, a guy collect the sap with a brush and poor the sap in a bucket which will be poor again in a huge tank. I’m not sure but it could be caoutchouc.

DSCF6782

Finally we arrived.

DSCF6783

That’s the waterfall we were looking for.

Close up.

DSCF6857

Many people come here to have a swim in the refreshing water.

In live again!

DSCF6858

Trying an arty picture.

DSCF6862

Leaves floating in water.

DSCF6868

Of course, kids love playing in the water.

DSCF6871

That’s a long time I did not use the tilt shift effect ;-)

DSCF6873

Nice to swim in fresh water.

Another live picture :-)

DSCF6877

It’s now more than 4pm so we have to keep going until about 6pm, 6:30pm. That’s it for today. That was a nice, easy and refreshing day.

  1. Wow it’s beautiful waterfall ! I would love to swim there.
The menu looks good and price looks good as well. :-)

  2. Sympa la cascade ! On dirait que l’eau a usé les pierres et que cela a mis les racines des arbres à nu !
