Salt creek > Ashville (107km, 5h)

This is another windy day in my favour today :-) So before it stops I’m using it as much as I can! This morning was cold but the rest of the day was perfect. I met a couple in “Salt Creek” who offer me a hot drink and invited me at there place :-) They live on the northern side of Adelaide so I will see them in few days time I guess. Very nice!

As I said, this morning is quite cold. I’ve packed everything and I’m now ready to go. My GPS says it’s 9.8 degrees, ouch! If feel it’s colder than this. I must cycling with one hand and the other in my pocket. Every minute, I switch :-)

Autumn is the beginning of the dry season in the center and the north of Australia. But it seems it’s the same case here. This looks like an empty bed of a lake. Or maybe it did not rain enough during the last week. No idea…

And it’s not today that the rain is coming I think. Good for me ;-)

This is Salt Creek. There is a shop, a campsite, toilets and… that’s all.

Everywhere in the toilets I can read this sign. Apparently, Salt Creek is not the best place to do business. The staff of the shop next door maintain the toilets themselves, not the council. So they count on us to say at least “Thank you” and/or buy something in there shop. Oh, They certainly have some chocolate for me. Any shape, I don’t mind :-)

Finally I bought a chocolate bar and during I was occupied to fix something on my trailer I had a chat with a man who stopped here with his wife (certainly to have a break). Then, they proposed me a drink and I joined them inside the shop/restaurant. We talked about our trip. They are coming back from Melbourne where they saw a show. And it takes them two days to drive from Melbourne to Adelaide because they take their time when it takes me almost 2 weeks haha. Graham and Joy gave me their address and said I would be welcome at there place when I will get there. Thank you very much, see you later then :-)

After finally an hour break, I’m back on the road. For the first time since yesterday, there is something different to see. Over there, far away, looks like this is a dune.

Yes it is :-)

And I’m getting closer to it.

Aaah, this is better.

The road is now folowwing the beach which is very nice.

I should be in Meningie today and if I can, I will continue a bit more. Adelaide is not too far now!

And I’ve done 20km more. This is time to have another break. Some stretching, some food, some pictures, the usual.

Tan..Gan..Fkal? The name of the National park maybe.

This must be the guy who doesn’t know the subject of his pictures.

Parnka point. Toilets, tables, it’s 1pm. This is certainly the right spot to get lunch. The only thing is, there is 4km of gravel road and the broken hub of my trailer is not going to like it. I’m not sure it’s a good idea but I need toilets now.

Rah, bloody gravel road! It was endless… But I’m there and my meal is cooking. For lunch this time it’s Rice, Quinoa, couscous, red lentils, pumpkin, cashew nust, tuna and teriyaki sauce. This is a good mic :-)

Always good to eat something, no matter what it is!

The shadows are getting longer and longer but I’ve got time front of me.

Hey :-)

Meringie is not too far now. 5 more kilometres.

See? I told you :-)

I’m now in an IGA supermarket, looking for a snack and… What’s that? “Pain de campagne” Mouaha! They must come in France, even few days, to realise than a real “Pain de campagne” is something completely different that this “thing”.

Let’s catch some sun and have another break. I’ve done 92km so far and I should have a last hour to get to 100km at least.

This park is nice.

But the town is empty. I keep thinking about Robe which is a very nice place.

Meningie, good bye!

I give myself 45 minutes and I’ll look for a spot.

The sky is on fire. Might be because I’ve got a nice tailwind again. How lucky am I these days!? Another 100km covered! youhou!

  1. J’aime bien quand tu dis : étirements, nourriture, photos … la routine ! J’en connais beaucoup qui la voudrait bien cette routine là ! Lol. Bon, plus que 92 kms avant Adélaïde ! On pourra se faire une petite skype non ?

  2. The toilet sign taught me a lot. I have never thought about people who operating that kind of toilet.
I hope many people purchase a little thing from the shop with use of their facility.
