Range View Rest Area > Pimba Roadhouse (111km, 6h15)

The first word that comes to my mind when I think about today is Wow! I wanted something different and not too easy. I think I found it. On the top of this, the wind was not on my side today which made pedaling harder. And who said Australia is flat? In a year of cycling I had only 3 days of really flat road. Every other roads were hilly! Well I knew that Alice Springs is about 800m high so it’s a looong slope of 2000km each side. But “they” have added more hills between to be sure it’s not too boring. I think… ;-)

Here we are, 7am. The last night was good and very quiet. And because of the lack of trees there was only few birds whistling early this morning.

DSCF8078

I had my breakfast and just started cycling when I’ve seen that! A proper Road Train.

DSCF8079

Let’s go!

DSCF8080

20km and 1h. Good time for a break.

DSCF8081

40km and 2h. Another break :-)

DSCF8083

All that space just for me.

DSCF8084

Lucky there is a rainwater tank here and it’s not empty. I will top up all my bottles. And I’m going to clean around because there is so much trash around. People are disgusting and unrespectful.

DSCF8085

I’m just off the rest area and There is now a salt lake.

DSCF8086

This is a big one!

DSCF8088

It runs on both sides of the road.

DSCF8089

60km and 3h20. Another break. I’m slowing down because of the wind. Early this morning there was none but now it’s annoying! The only thing I could sit on was that rock. Yes the small one in the cetre of the picture :-)

DSCF8090

The clouds have a “wave” shape now.

DSCF8092

Red, red, red, and red.

DSCF8093

And more red with a big hill! You see, Australia is not flat!

DSCF8095

Panoramic view of the road.

DSCF8096

Now I’ve just cycling against the wind. It’s not that strong but the road is uphill. Rah, hard!

DSCF8097

And some downhill following by another hill.

DSCF8098

Wow, there is a huge salt lake over there.

DSCF8100

I’m alive ;-)

DSCF8101

The landscape is too big, too large, too impressive to catch it with my small camera. I don’t know how to get the right shot to show the truth of this.

DSCF8103

Just too large.

DSCF8104

Finally! After more than 6h cycling today, I’m arriving to Pimba and its Spud’s roadhouse!

DSCF8105

Youhouu! And there is hot showers for $2 (GoogI found 50 cents on the road one hour ago ;-) There is toilets, water, internet coverage and I will get a small chips! Nice :-)

DSCF8106

This is my neighbors. They have a trailer has well but they can sleep in it ;-)

DSCF8107

The shower was good! Let’s get some fat now ;-)

Good place to have a rest, some food and right my blog.

IMG_20150501_183657

There is a huge collection of license plates here and this is not the only covered wall. That’s cool. I’m tired now, so I will come back to my tent, wash my teeth, lay down down and close my eyes until tomorrow morning. Good night!

  1. Terre rouge !

  2. Road houses are like oasis. It must be so nice to have a hot shower after the long ride.
