Well, I’m conscious this “thing” does not look inviting but it’s really nice, and I would say, it was! As usual I’m cooking with a free mind, get out the stuff I’ve got in the fridge and make something up. There is a base of rice on the bottom and mainly onion, salad and tofu. Simple :-)

4 persons

  • White rice (2 cups)
  • Hard Tofu (250g)
  • Salad (any kind)
  • 1 brown onion
  • Oyster sauce (2 tablespoon)
  • sesame oil (1 table spoon)
  • butter (1 tea spoon)
  • 5 chinese spices

Preparation : 10 minutes  /  Cooking : 30 minutes.

01 / The rice

Let’s start with the rice. As I learned the proper way to cook rice without a rice cooker here how we proceed. Clean the rice several time with clear water. Pour it into a pot. Then, pour water on top of it. The quantity of water is THE important thing of course. For 1cm of rice on the bottom of the pot, add a centimeter of water above it. Then cover and place on the stove at maximum power. When it starts boiling, reduce to half the power and let it cook until the water almost disappears. Then, without opening the lead, let rest for 10 more minutes and it should be ready.

02 / The preparation

During the rice is cooking chopped the onion and roughly the salad.
Cut in big cubes the tofu.

03 / tofu is good for you

Melt the butter + sesame oil in a hot frypan and add the tofu cubes.

04 / Seasoning

Add a drop of oyster sauce on each tofu cubes and wait 3, 4 minutes until the tofu start to grilled. Then flip each pieces and add another drop of oyster sauce onto the other face.

05 / Greens

Finally add the salad and the onion, reduce the heat to half and cover the frypan with a lead. Stir sometimes for the next 10 minutes.

06 / This is it

The rice might be cook now. Let’s serve it in bowls, pour the salad/onion mix and finally the fried tofu on the top. A bit of chinese spices and you should be ready for travelling a bit. Enjoy!
