Batchelor > Buley Rockhole (51km, 3h)

DSCF9755

Nice day today, I’ve been in the water most of the time and with that heat it’s very nice. Litchfield park is a touristy place so naturally there is lots of people around but it’s always possible to find a time when there is not hundred of us in the same spot. I’ve visited Florence Falls as well which is nice and then when back to Buley Rockhole to camp for the night.

This is the park I was talking about yesterday. I’m now next to the pub again to have my breakfast and slept on the other side of that oval, where the light is.

DSCF9710

I’m full and ready to go. This is my campsite again :-)

DSCF9711

The style of the house is different here. They are all up high to avoid flood I guess.

DSCF9712

The streets in Batchelor are full of trees, it’s nice.

DSCF9713

Litchfield National park :-)

DSCF9714

It’s 6:45am and there is still fog in the fields.

DSCF9716

Let’s start this day.

DSCF9718

… on a smoky road. This is not fog anymore, this smoke is coming from bush fire.

DSCF9715

As I said before, Australia’s bush needs fire to survive and like now, a fire is slowly burning the dry grass.

DSCF9719

The sky is still cloudless today.

DSCF9720

Termite Mounds 18km. Then I will visit Florence Falls.

DSCF9721

I’m now entering in Litchfield National Park :-)

DSCF9722

That is a BIG Termite Mount! But it’s not the place on the map yet.

DSCF9723

I’m just at the beginning of the park and have a lot to visit.

DSCF9724

Here it is.

DSCF9730

So, this is the visit.

DSCF9731

Hooo :-)

DSCF9732

Wow! there is a lot!

DSCF9734

Those termite are called the “Magnetic termite” because they build their nest following the axle north-South. That way they have always a side where is cooler in summer time. Scientist did an experience by changing locally the magnetic field and the termite did follow that new direction! Interesting.

DSCF9735

Cathedral Termite Mound. This one measure 5 metres high an is estimated to be 50 years old!

DSCF9737

I’m nearly in Florence Falls now but there is a hard bit to climb. Few!

DSCF9738

Finally here :-) There is a 200m walk to enjoy a lookout and 153 stairs to go down the falls.

DSCF9739

The view from the lookout.

DSCF9741

And I will have a swim of course :-)

DSCF9742

Nearly there.

DSCF9743

Florence Falls.

DSCF9752

Swimming was nice and I’m now coming back.

DSCF9755

Then I’ve been cycling back to Buley Rock Holes and here am I. A lot of people here though.

DSCF9756

Some flowers.

DSCF9754

The water is fresh, this is perfect.

DSCF9757

Yep!

and more.

DSCF9774

The clouds are coming. It might rain tonight.

DSCF9776

That’s the campsite where I will sleep tonight. The price is 6.60$ but I did not have any change. If the ranger come I will pay, if he doesn’t I won’t.

DSCF9775

And finally, the toilets with it’s rainwater tank and solar panels. Very modern.
That’s all for today. I did not have much to say. It’s just nature and waterfalls but I enjoyed it. See ya!
